Q1. I've never rafting before. Can I still come on the tour?

A1. By all means.
Rafting is an incredibly accessible sport, and is easy for first timers to pick up. You guide will take your through all the necessary techniques before you hit the water and will be with you for the whole of the trip to ensure you get the very best from your experience.

Q2. Isn't rafting dangerous?

A2. As with all sports there is a slight element of risk involved.
Rafting is an outdoor adventure sport that works with Mother Nature so, unlike a theme park ride there will be risk involved.
Canyons do everything in their power to reduce the risk while providing an enjoyable experience. It is never possible to completely guarantee the safety of participants and by taking part in the tour the participant understands that an element of risk exists. The guide's role is to make sure that the customer has as safe and as enjoyable experience as possible, and by listening to the direction of the guide, the customer makes this easier.

Canyons has an outstanding safetly record and is committed to employing experienced professional guides, assiting them with continual improvement, and using only the best and safest gear available.

Q3. I can't swim. Can I still take part?

A3. Definitely.
参Every participant wears a lifejacket which provides ample buoyancy. Our wetsuits also provide additional buoyancy aid so you are not going to sink if you end up in the water and can't swim.

However, those who are afraid of the water, or likely to panic if they find themselves in the water probably want to think twice.

Q4. Do I need to book, and if so, how far in advance?
A4. Booking is necessary. The further in advance, the better.

To be sure of securing a place on a weekend, it is best to book at least 2 weeks in advance, 3 weeks in advance for the summer period. It is possible that there will be places still left "on the day", but this is very rare.

Q5. What happens if I need to make a cancellation?

A5. In the event of cancellations the following charges apply.

Failure to show up for your tour on time due to traffic or other circumstances will be deemed as cancellations, so please take care, especially on the weekends.

Q7. If I wear contact lenses or glasses...?
A7.You can still take part.
Goggles and glasses straps are options. Please be aware that contact lenses or glasses could be lost or broken. Canyons cannot take responsibility for such an event.
Q8. Do you offer a pick up service?

A8. We do.

In the Minakami are we pick up from Minakami Station for local line trains and Jomokogen Station for bullet trains. We also pick up from selected local onsens and accommodations.

For Kusatsu tours we pick up from Kusatsu Bus Terminal or selected local accommodations.

For Akagi tours we pick up from Shikshima Station on the Joetsu Line.

When you book, please let us know your requirements and we can let you know the relevent schedule.

Q9. Do tours run in bad weather?
A9. Yes, although if the water level rises too much we may have to reassess the situation.
Q10. When is the best time to go rafting?
A10. It's always a great time to raft.
For those that like high thrills, spring high water season is the best time to run the rapids. For those who prefer a mellow tour, the summer rafting from July onwards is a better bet and a great way to escape the heat.
Q11. Do you have BBQ facilities?
A11.みIn Minakami and Akagi we can arrange a BBQ for you. In Kusatsu we can point you in the direction of a nearby BBQ area.
At the Minakami Base you can rent the grill or choose one of the food included packages. At the Akagi Base the food is always included.
